Best Golf Balls for 2014

Golf Digest knows that the equipment you use on the green makes a world of difference in your game results. That's why they've compiled the HotList for the best 2014 golf balls you can find. Click through the Hot List and take inventory of what's in your golf bag but more importantly what's not.
We all crave distance, but how a golf ball performs on approach shots and around the green is what saves the most strokes. Maybe that's why manufacturers are focusing on feel—by lowering compression and reformulating softer covers to make chips and pitches check up quicker. It's what we saw in our review of 59 balls for the 2014 Hot List. Both in robot testing and player comments, the meaningful differences clearly came off the short wedge shots, not from the driver.

The Treasure Coast is bubbling over with great brunch spots serving breakfast, lunch and mimosas simultaneously. The real dilemma arises when it's time to choose which dining venue for brunch. This article by the TC Palm has done all of the groundwork in finding the best brunch places in the Treasure Coast.
Going out for breakfast on a Sunday morning is always a treat, but finding a location for a relaxing brunch transforms an ordinary breakfast into an event. We told you last week about the great brunch at Club Med in Port St. Lucie, but that’s far from the only place on the Treasure Coast that offers the in-between meal. Listed below are some restaurants that offer a weekly brunch both adults and kids will enjoy.

Harbour Ridge’s Executive Chef, Michael Plotkin, is cooking up something big for our members. Plotkin is laying the ground work for exciting new traditions at Harbor Ridge. With the club and annual activities offered there’s never a dull moment in our community. The culinary battle of will is set to take place on May 8th inside the Riverview Dining Room. The venue will be transformed into a real live cooking competition complete with stadium seating for the audience. Attendees of the competition will be treated to a delightful dinner complete with hors d’oeuvres, entrees and desserts.

The cost is $100 per person; including dinner and an open bar. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Harbour Ridge Family Foundation for support. No competition is complete without proper judging and great prizes. Executive Chef Plotkin will serve as a judge on the panel along with the House Committee chair, Fred Comfort and Chef Stocks from the District Table and of course our very special audience!

Cornerstone Bistro Beautiful Food & Decor

If you're looking for a place to enjoy a gourmet meal and beautiful ambiance tonight look no further. St. Lucie County's Cornerstone Bistro is sure to deliver. The bistro presents its very best in dining and decor. Your entrees are even served with a private cooking show included compliments of the glass window that allows guests to peer into the kitchen and watch meal preparation. The next time you're looking for a new place to enjoy in St. Lucie don't forget Cornerstone Bistro.
There are a handful of fine dining options in St. Lucie County, and I’ve been looking forward to the Cornerstone Bistro in the Veranda Falls plaza in Port St. Lucie for some time. The opportunity to get dolled up is a nice change. Everything from elaborately set tables, broad wine racks crowning the bar and the beige brick faade of the interior is stunning. The stars were best enjoyed from the patio, where comfy couches are available for sharing conversation and a cocktail near a gas fire pit and tables have a view of the embellished fountain. The kitchen was bustling where Chef “Z” and his staff worked behind the glass windows of the dining area. It’s a fun experience to see a chef chopping and tossing the ingredients for the dish that arrives at your table. I appreciated my food just a little more.

The Great Arnold Palmer

In 1958 at the Augusta, Georgia Masters Tournament, Arnold Palmer became the youngest tournament champion of that time and ranked as the highest paid golfer for that year. Over the next five years Palmer rose to become the world’s best golfer, experiencing insurmountable levels of success. He gained 29 titles and over $400,000 in prize money. He continued blazing his trail for success and capturing four wins at the Masters Tournament in 1958,1960, 1962 and 1964. In 1968 he became the first golfer to surpass $1 million dollars in purse winnings. Palmer's early life was defined by great triumphs and great trials. Learn more about the early years of Arnold Palmer in this detailed biography.
Arnold Daniel Palmer was born on September 10, 1929, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The son of a golf pro, Palmer picked up the sport as a toddler after his father, Milfred J. "Deacon" Palmer, shortened a set of regulation clubs so that his son could use them. The game came easily to Palmer, and by the time he was 17, he'd already captured two state interscholastic championships. He eventually earned a golf scholarship to Wake Forest University, where he won three Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. But Palmer's life took an unexpected and tragic turn in 1950, when his close friend and teammate, Bud Worsham, was killed in a car accident. His death so rattled Palmer that he quit college his senior year and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, embarking on a three-year hiatus from golf. By 1954, however, Palmer had returned to the game and quickly resumed his old form. That year, he won the second of two consecutive Ohio Amateur Championships as well as the U.S. Amateur title. By the fall of 1954, he'd turned pro.

Palmer known throughout the world of golf for both his experience and wisdom, has shaped the career of many up and coming golfers. Read his wise words captured below by Golf Digest.
"How do we make the game of golf accessible again to regular people? That's a hell of a question. For one thing, the pros have to do a better job of connecting with the fans. I see players and I wonder sometimes when they ignore the press why they're not interested. It may be that the money just came too easy for them. ... It's something that I tried to create -- the money, the purses -- and it may be working a little in reverse. Players need to remember they didn't make golf. Golf made them."

5 Ways to Secure Your Yacht

With the rise of criminal activity at sea, highlighted in the film, Captain Phillips,a reenactment of the Maersk Alabama incident, implementing the proper safety protocols is an essential factor to your sea bound adventures. This article outlines five key points for increasing your yacht's security measures.
Sailing the open seas can be one of the most thrilling endeavors that anyone takes on, however even the most experienced sailor will warn you about the great risk that comes along with heading out for the open sea. That being said, Galatea has created a comprehensive safety package to ensure that you have a friend on your side, no matter where in the open seas you may find yourself. Here are the top 5 security measures that every yacht owner should take: 1. Be Smart and Survey the Skies The first thing that you should do before going on a trip by sea is study the surroundings that you’ll be visiting. This may sound rudimentary, but the first and arguably most critical thing that every boater should before heading on a journey is check weather conditions to ensure that there are no signs of dangerous weather. If you see signs of darkening skies or turbulent clouds, that might be a good sign to get off the water or postpone your trip. 2. Get to Know Your Boat Before you take your boat out for a long trip, it’s advised that you take it in for a check-up with a trusted mechanic to ensure that all of your parts are in top shape. There are many services available that help track your maintenance reports. 3. Have the Right Support Handy Most boating experts recommend designating an assistant skipper before going off for a long journey. You and your skipper should be in constant contact and have a plan of action in the event of an emergency. Make sure that you and your skipper are well versed in how your boat works and that you’re both comfortable with your sailing skills. When you’re out at sea, accessing an appropriate help desk isn’t always the easiest feat. 4. The number to a trusted mechanic Anyone who owns a car or pleasure craft can vouch that there is nothing more nerve wracking than leaving your vehicle or vessel with a stranger. While we all have a shop or mechanic that we like to turn to, boat owners know that you don’t always have the luxury of being in arms reach of the technician of your choice. 5. Have Proper Boats Documentation Having the appropriate boating documentation handy is essential for safety and insurance purposes; however being behind the wheel of a boat brings forth the additional threat of water damage in addition to wear and tear of these important documents. With these safety tips in your arsenal, you’re sure to have a fun and responsible journey on the open seas.
