Leading a Healthy Lifestyle

Leading a healthy lifestyle provides a plethora of benefits for the long term quality of life available to you. At Harbour Ridge, our goal is to encourage and support the healthy lifestyle for each of our residents and families. Our new wellness programs were designed specifically to improve the health and fitness for our entire community. Achieving these goals is easier with the support and accountability of others.

Healthy Exercise Routine
Incorporating exercise into your daily routine can impact your overall health tremendously. The endorphins released during physical activity boost emotional and mental well-being, resulting in the decrease of stress, anxiety and tension. Many people believe that exercise is only for aesthetic benefits. This myth is far from the truth. Exercise improves many areas of your life. Don't wait for the perfect scenario to begin. Get moving today!

Healthy Eating
A consistent exercise routine and healthy diet choices are directly correlated. Each segment plays a major role in your health and well-being. Implementing a clean eating plan into your everyday life isn't difficult at all. It just takes a little planning and preparation. Our new "Watch Your Weight - The 12 Week Journey" will highlight key points to developing a winning diet that you and your family can enjoy.

Exercise Now to Improve Your Retirement

Exercising now can save you a great deal of money during retirement. This article highlights the importance of living a health focused and active lifestyle. Studies show that this approach greatly reduces the chances of common medical problems that occur later in life. Read the article below for an in-depth look at the way your health impacts your retirement.
The JAMA study involved 1,635 inactive men and women between the ages of 70 and 89 in eight different centers around the country, who participated in the study for an average of 2.6 years. Most lived in their communities, and none had major cognitive impairment. At the outset of the study, all the participants could walk a quarter mile, or 400 meters, within 15 minutes without sitting, leaning, or the help of another person or a walker. (Canes were allowed, since their use involves higher functioning than a walker.) Yet this was not a robust group. Many had chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes. What’s more, their sedentary lifestyles put them at high risk of losing their ability to walk a quarter mile, and in turn their independence.

What is Qigong Yoga?

Our new Qigong Yoga sessions at Harbour Ridge are sure to bring harmony and balance to your life. Are you unfamiliar with Qigong? Check out this article for an in-depth background on the art of Qigong Yoga and the benefits it provides. What are its' similarities and differences to mainstream yoga?
Qigong (pronounced "chee-gong") is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is usually translated to mean the life force or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe. Gong means accomplishment, or a skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Together, the two words mean cultivating energy to maintain health and increase vitality.

Kick Energy Zappers to the Curb

This article suggests starting in the small choices made in our daily food choices. Then focus you're attention on infusing healthy diet items into your overall eating habits. Keep reading to learn how to kick the energy zappers out of your meal line-up.

How Golf Impacts The Lives Of Those In The Sport World

It is common practice for college football coaches to enjoy golf and take the game seriously, but Steven Spurrier takes his game very seriously. In the 30 years of coaching college football, Steven has never lost a golf game to one of his players. This piece from ESPN takes a look at the many people inside of the sports world, and the impact golf has had on their lives.

Of course, opportunities to hit the tees at all are getting harder to come by for coaches. The recruiting calendar has grown more cumbersome, the demands of the job more strenuous, and the number of coaches regularly playing golf has diminished as a result. Even Spurrier, the elder statesmen of the coaching ranks on both the football field and the golf course, doesn't get out quite as much as he used to. By the end of July, his clubs are already gathering dust.

Rules For Doubles

Playing doubles in tennis requires a secure grasp of the rules to avoid any type of argument or tension, and it helps to have a refresher on them every once in awhile. A fun game can turn serious with the right level of competitiveness, and some people falsely believe that they know everything there is to know about tennis. Read the following article for an extensive look at the rule book, and enjoy your next game!

What happens when there is a delay between the first and second serves? If the delay is caused by the receiver (such as a broken string or contact lens problem), an official or outside interference, the whole point is replayed. It the server caused the delay, such as when the server breaks a string, the server gets one serve. Note, a spectator’s call (out, fault or other), a spectator’s or player’s cell phone ringing or grunting from an adjacent court is not basis for replaying the point.

The Latest In Iron Technology

Part of the fun in playing golf is the equipment. Every club is a personal choice that hopefully improve your game and last for years. Buying new clubs can be exciting, especially when there are recent developments in the industry. This piece from Golf Digest researches the latest in iron technology.

"We always go into a new design searching for high performance, to try to get faster ball speed and more consistent distance all over the face," says TaylorMade's Bret Wahl, vice president of research and development for irons. "But feel will remind us just how far we can take that."

Everything You Will Ever Need To Know About Golf

Do you know how to mark your ball so that you don't miss your spot? Do you know to read a green? Whether you are a leisurely golf enthusiast who wants to take their game to the next level or you are a seasoned pro, there are points in the following guide that you may have never heard before.

The key to reading putts is to establish a routine. Begin as you approach the green, observing the overall slopes and undulations. Then without distracting your playing companions, read your putt while others putt out. This helps speed play.

Tips For Your Short Game

Line and speed are the two factors in making putts, and both of these factors can be controlled. A player only needs to understand the relationship between the two factors in order to improve their short game. Gaining control over the speed and position are learned tricks that will improve your score, and the following article goes in-depth on how to improve your short game.

According to Dave Pelz, a former NASA scientist and short-game guru to many of the PGA Tour’s top players, the perfect speed to hit a putt is with enough pace so that if the putt had missed it would have gone seventeen inches beyond the cup. That speed, according to his research, will lip in more often than it will lip out and is the most consistent in holding the line while still going in when hitting the back of the cup.
