With the changing of the leaves and the briskness in the air it's safe to say that Fall has definitely arrived in Florida. So how does this change in the weather affect Florida's most beloved sport? Apparently not much depending on which region of Florida you reside in. 1- Golf Gloves Golf gloves are perfect for keeping your hands warm and your mind focused on the game. They're available in several different colors and materials to suit your liking. We recommend keeping a pair in your golf bag to outsmart Florida's unpredictable weather patterns.

2-Golf Vests These vests have been fine tuned from their big, bulky predecessors. Companies have taken on the task of keeping golfers warm without intruding on the functionality of their game. Walking the Greens

Golf is an age old game that continues to affect the lives of each generation. Golf provides many benefits for improving one's quality of life. The game challenges you physically and mentally, but the true gift of the game is the mental clarity found in walking the greens. Learn how a little walking can bring joy back to your game.
If I think about my greatest days spent on a golf course, the most memorable are always when I've played on foot. Nearly every round as a kid was enjoyed walking and now as I get older, I've re-embraced the notion that a "rolling stone" gathers no moss. This, of course, wasn't always the case. Somewhere between then and now, I became either tired or lazy. It was too easy to drive my car to the course, only to throw my clubs onto a tinier car, which was then often restricted to the cart path. If someone in my group suggested walking, my excuse was always that my large Staff Bag would be unreasonable to carry. It's safe to say I went the better part of a decade riding out of what I thought was convenience. In reality, all I was doing was robbing myself of the gift of playing the game the way it was meant to be played. To really soak all you can out of anything, you've got to be present. Nothing allows you to slow down and take notice on a golf course better than walking.

Harbour Ridge Yacht Club

Hitting the Ball on the Green w/ Rio Ishikawa

Ryo Ishikawa is ready to take you to school. Literally. After ranking no. 1 on the PG tour in greens and regulations we figured he has a lot to share and he does. Read how to improve your game and get more green here...
When a golfer's approach shot misses the green on the side closest to the flag, it's known in English as being "short-sided." The Japanese don't have an exact translation for this phrase, and as far as Japan's Ryo Ishikawa is concerned, that's just fine. "When I hit iron shots to the green, I'm aiming for the safety space rather than a narrow space," says Ishikawa, 22, through a translator. "Because I do not take a risk, I get very calm and make a good swing." It's hard to argue with his results.

Vegan Cuisine on the Open Sea

The vegan diet is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. While most would assume that life on the open sea should be filled with delicious seafood dishes, these three chefs are challenging the status quo. Learn more about these chefs and their approach to healthy cuisine aboard.
This trend caught the eye of organizers at the recent Antigua Charter Yacht Show, where yachts are trying to attract vacationers of all kinds and where veganism was the theme for the annual culinary competition. Three chefs stood out in this type of cooking, each earning first prize in their yacht’s class. Gisele Lannamann of the 76-foot K&M Aurelius took top honors along with Jacob Luke of the 142-foot Richmond Crowned Eagle and Anders Pedersen of the 180-foot Benetti Altitude.

Anytime you have a chance to talk to a great at the top of his profession, you should do it. I've chatted with athletes ranging from Jack Nicklaus to NBA shooting guard Ray Allen about competing under pressure. And I've used what has worked on the golf course. If you look at any athlete at the top of his game, he has the technique and the mental side figured out. That's not an accident.

Many people believe that exercise is only for aesthetic benefits. This myth is far from the truth. Exercise improves many areas of your life. Don't wait for the perfect scenario to begin. Get moving today!

Healthy Eating
A consistent exercise routine and healthy diet choices are directly correlated. Each segment plays a major role in your health and well-being. Implementing a clean eating plan into your everyday life isn't difficult at all. It just takes a little planning and preparation. Our new "Watch Your Weight - The 12 Week Journey" will highlight key points to developing a winning diet that you and your family can enjoy.

Exercise Now to Improve Your Retirement

Exercising now can save you a great deal of money during retirement. This article highlights the importance of living a health focused and active lifestyle. Studies show that this approach greatly reduces the chances of common medical problems that occur later in life. Read the article below for an in-depth look at the way your health impacts your retirement.
The JAMA study involved 1,635 inactive men and women between the ages of 70 and 89 in eight different centers around the country, who participated in the study for an average of 2.6 years. Most lived in their communities, and none had major cognitive impairment. At the outset of the study, all the participants could walk a quarter mile, or 400 meters, within 15 minutes without sitting, leaning, or the help of another person or a walker. (Canes were allowed, since their use involves higher functioning than a walker.) Yet this was not a robust group. Many had chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes. What’s more, their sedentary lifestyles put them at high risk of losing their ability to walk a quarter mile, and in turn their independence.

What is Qigong Yoga?

Our new Qigong Yoga sessions at Harbour Ridge are sure to bring harmony and balance to your life. Are you unfamiliar with Qigong? Check out this article for an in-depth background on the art of Qigong Yoga and the benefits it provides. What are its' similarities and differences to mainstream yoga?
Qigong (pronounced "chee-gong") is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is usually translated to mean the life force or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe. Gong means accomplishment, or a skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Together, the two words mean cultivating energy to maintain health and increase vitality.

Kick Energy Zappers to the Curb

This article suggests starting in the small choices made in our daily food choices. Then focus you're attention on infusing healthy diet items into your overall eating habits. Keep reading to learn how to kick the energy zappers out of your meal line-up.
When you need a boost of energy don’t reach for another double espresso or chocolate bar. The caffeine and sugar may boost your energy in the short term, but will leave you feeling even lower later. Try one of these fast-acting natural pick-me-ups instead.

Metabolism Boosters

Here's a pick me up for your exercise routine. All you need is eight minutes to boost your metabolism. Don't believe us? Check out these powerful gym tips to try at your next workout session and don't miss the launch of our new fitness programs at Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club.

How Golf Impacts The Lives Of Those In The Sport World

It is common practice for college football coaches to enjoy golf and take the game seriously, but Steven Spurrier takes his game very seriously. In the 30 years of coaching college football, Steven has never lost a golf game to one of his players. This piece from ESPN takes a look at the many people inside of the sports world, and the impact golf has had on their lives.

Of course, opportunities to hit the tees at all are getting harder to come by for coaches. The recruiting calendar has grown more cumbersome, the demands of the job more strenuous, and the number of coaches regularly playing golf has diminished as a result. Even Spurrier, the elder statesmen of the coaching ranks on both the football field and the golf course, doesn't get out quite as much as he used to. By the end of July, his clubs are already gathering dust.

Rules For Doubles

Playing doubles in tennis requires a secure grasp of the rules to avoid any type of argument or tension, and it helps to have a refresher on them every once in awhile. A fun game can turn serious with the right level of competitiveness, and some people falsely believe that they know everything there is to know about tennis. Read the following article for an extensive look at the rule book, and enjoy your next game!

What happens when there is a delay between the first and second serves? If the delay is caused by the receiver (such as a broken string or contact lens problem), an official or outside interference, the whole point is replayed. It the server caused the delay, such as when the server breaks a string, the server gets one serve. Note, a spectator’s call (out, fault or other), a spectator’s or player’s cell phone ringing or grunting from an adjacent court is not basis for replaying the point.

The Latest In Iron Technology

Part of the fun in playing golf is the equipment. Every club is a personal choice that hopefully improve your game and last for years. Buying new clubs can be exciting, especially when there are recent developments in the industry. This piece from Golf Digest researches the latest in iron technology.

"We always go into a new design searching for high performance, to try to get faster ball speed and more consistent distance all over the face," says TaylorMade's Bret Wahl, vice president of research and development for irons. "But feel will remind us just how far we can take that."

Everything You Will Ever Need To Know About Golf

Do you know how to mark your ball so that you don't miss your spot? Do you know to read a green? Whether you are a leisurely golf enthusiast who wants to take their game to the next level or you are a seasoned pro, there are points in the following guide that you may have never heard before.

The key to reading putts is to establish a routine. Begin as you approach the green, observing the overall slopes and undulations. Then without distracting your playing companions, read your putt while others putt out. This helps speed play.

Tips For Your Short Game

Line and speed are the two factors in making putts, and both of these factors can be controlled. A player only needs to understand the relationship between the two factors in order to improve their short game. Gaining control over the speed and position are learned tricks that will improve your score, and the following article goes in-depth on how to improve your short game.

According to Dave Pelz, a former NASA scientist and short-game guru to many of the PGA Tour’s top players, the perfect speed to hit a putt is with enough pace so that if the putt had missed it would have gone seventeen inches beyond the cup. That speed, according to his research, will lip in more often than it will lip out and is the most consistent in holding the line while still going in when hitting the back of the cup.

Wie is Poised for Victory

She's back in business and poised to win her first major. After having a little trouble she's come back focused on the prize. Michelle Wie is certainly worth watching as she makes a run for the victory. Learn more about Wie's background and her focus on securing her place in golf history.
There was a bounce-back in 2009 and ’10 when she had one LPGA victory in each of those years and then another slide as she missed 10 cuts in 2012 and seven in the first half of 2013. But sometime around the Solheim Cup last August, things started to fall into place for Wie. Now, she goes into the weekend at Pinehurst No. 2 positioned to make a run at her first major championship after a two-under-par 68 Friday left her at four under through 36 holes. Closing out her round in spectacular fashion, Wie finished birdie-birdie on a firm, fast sweltering track that was yielding very few low scores in the second round.

Summer Time Golf Tips

It's summer time and according to Keegan Bradley that's the best time to work on your golf swing. Since relocating to Jupiter, Fl he has settled in to the year round summer season that's perfect for golfers. Here he shares a few tips and tricks to make the most of your summer and whip your swing into shape.
When it's deep into the season and you're not playing well, it's frustrating. This is when it's time to revisit some basics. To me, the basics are driving and chipping. If you can do those two things well, you'll be hard to beat. It's rare to mess up a short iron from a fairway that badly. And if you can chip the ball to a foot, your putter doesn't matter.

Hitting the Green with Martin Kaymer

Martin Kaymer is teaching us the tips for getting great results on the green. He's hitting on some of the most common amateur problems that golfers face and was generous enough to share how to improve it. Read this article to increase your success so for hitting the greens.
From what I see, many amateurs should improve their fairway woods. I think it's one of the biggest problem areas. Why? You don't let the club do its job. These clubs are designed to hit the ball high and far and find greens from long range, but only if you use them correctly. I think you'll have more success hitting greens with fairway woods if you play a fade. That's my stock ball flight. It's just an easier shot to control.

Sharpen Your Skills with Lexi Thompson

Want to sharpen your golf skills? Lexi Thompson, LPGA's newest champion, shows us how to smash it on the green. She serves up some great advice for lowering your score and improving your game in this Golf Digest article. Read more to learn her moves and how you can make them your own.
To turn better, feel like you're stretching your front shoulder behind the ball. And stay relaxed. See Lexi (right, top): She's fully back but doesn't look rigid. The worst move is to grip tighter or lunge forward as you start down. It's important to note that Lexi sets up slightly open to the target, especially with her short irons. Her natural shot is a draw, so the open stance keeps her from getting the club too far to the inside and encourages a straighter swing path. She takes the club back nice and wide, which gives her that great high-hand position at the top

Golf Tips with Bill Horschel

Are you ready to improve your swing? This tutorial shares great tips for achieving greater distance and laser focused results on the green. Check out Golf Digest's instructional blog for improving your game. Want to hit like Bill Horschel? Here's how.
Most swings on the PGA Tour are built for either big distance or hitting lasers down the sprinkler line. And they're not hard to peg. Bubba Watson makes a giant backswing and really drives his legs. Result: 350-yard bombs. Zach Johnson stays centered over the ball and swings way shorter. Result: three out of four fairways. But sometimes we see a player like Billy Horschel who's a bomber and a control guy. Let's see what Billy does to keep up with the big boys and also keep the ball in play. Pick which tips you want, or be like Billy and take them all.

Our 11th annual uncensored guide to the best golf equipment features 106 of the more than 250 clubs evaluated by our team of equipment editors, with input from scientists, teaching professionals, retailers and amateurs. We evaluated drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters in four areas: performance, innovation, look/sound/feel and demand. "It's not just tour players who are benefitting in this era of game-improving psyche-enhancing clubs," Senior Equipment Editor Mike Stachura writes.

Martin Kaymer Trumps the U.S. Open

The U.S. Open took a different spin this time around with a lot less drama and heartfelt stories. The appreciation of Martin Kaymer for his well-earned victory and the tear jerking story of Erik Compton's heroic second place triumph were great headliners for the classic game of golf. This article highlights the best moments of the U.S. Open.
"This is quite nice proof," he said, a gentle allusion to critics who saw his 2010 PGA Championship as one of those flukes that litter golf history, "to have two major championships under your belt and only 29 years old." Kaymer owned this Open the way Woods owned Pebble Beach's in 2000. Opening with back-to-back 65s will do that. Then Kaymer strolled through the weekend with 71 and Sunday's 69 for an eight-shot victory, nothing like Woods's 15-shot stampede at Pebble but matching McIlroy's margin, the fourth best in the Open's 114 years.

Steffi Graf's Historical Tennis Match

Sports History was made 26 years ago at the French Open title when Steffi Graf defeated Natsaha Zvereva. Both girls were teenagers in the prime of their athletic careers. This match defied the long history of victories at the French Open and inspired many children in the game of tennis. Read more in the article below.
On this day in 1988, Steffi Graf won her second French Open title with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Natasha Zvereva. The match, which lasted all of 32 minutes, set the record for shortest women's singles title match at a Grand Slam in the Open Era. It also marked the first time a French Open finalist failed to win one game, and was the first time since 1911 at any Grand Slam final that a title was decided by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Novak Djokovic's Press Humor

In contrast to the press follow-ups of heated professional basketball games where the players are coached, poised and dressed for publicity, tennis pressers strive for the opposite. The questions asked are much more candid and sometimes have absolutely no correlation to tennis itself. Often times the tennis players themselves are much relaxed and informal with reporters. This combination sometimes creates newsworthy moments. Read more about Djokovic's humorous press bloopers.
Referencing Djokovic's book, "Serve to Win," an Italian reporter asked, "I read that you became the best of yourself, what you are now, when you stopped eating the gluten. So I wanted to ask, if I stop with the gluten, will I become a better writer?" Djokovic buried his head in his arms in laughter. "Oh, god. Thank you for your question," he said. "What was the question again? If you don't eat gluten, would you be a better writer? ... I'm sure that gluten is a great obstacle for your writing. You should change your diet, definitely. Pizza with no gluten, it's good, also."

The Rules of Golf

The game of golf has been around for many centuries. Each century reshaping the game until it became golf as we know it today. The earliest form of golf was recorded in 100 BC, as the Roman game of golf, Paganica. In Paganica, participants used a slightly bent stick to strike a stuffed leather ball. Golf has evolved tremendously since its Paganica infancy and has developed into an extremely popular sport.

The benefits of golf are immeasurable, from the beautiful landscaping noted on hundreds of prestigious golf courses to the ability to play the sport well into retirement years. True golfers adore the game. However the rules of golf have changed many times over across its history. So what are the basic rules of golf and how are they applied on the green?

The game of golf holds true to three key rules, playing the ball, playing the course and fairness. According to the USGA and R&A, the rules of golf are centered on these three basic principles. Over the years there have been specialized rulings as a result of specific circumstances in competitive play but the regulations always point back to the golden three.

1 -  A golfer must always play the ball as it lies.
2 -  A golfer must play the course as they have found it.
3 - A golfer must always do what is fair.

If you would like to learn more about the rules of golf and how to improve your game our expert golf instructors can help you personally. Our Florida golf community located in the heart of the Treasure Coast is known for it's superior golf instruction and clinics.

What's in Rory's Bag?

Rory McIlroy has a few new toys in  his bag and Golf Digest has the details. Rory shared his new clubs with the magazine and how he feels they helped him in winning the Wentworth. In this detailed interview he discusses his clubs of choice and his recent win at the BMW PGA Championship. Read more about Rory and his new go to clubs.

The Toe Sweep is something I've been messing around with for a while and I felt like last week was a good time to put it in play. The one thing I really like about it is how well it goes through the rough. Some of those shots on the way in Sunday were key up and downs. The chip-in on 10 and the flop shot that I played on 14, those two were out of the rough. The way the club is designed it feels that it slides through that longer grass really easily and the ball comes out that much better for me. If there was one area of my game that I needed to improve this year it was probably scrambling, and this wedge helped a lot this week with that.

Technology is Taking Your Game to New Levels

The technology of golf is changing. Helpful tools have emerged to improve the game of golf and the golfer's skill set. This witty invention fits snugly into the back of your glove and monitors your swing. With this technology golfers can measure their speed, tempo and much more while playing a round of golf. Learn more about the new Zepp Golf Sensor.
There are several golf-swing analyzers on the market that let you download your swing to an app on your phone. What distinguishes Zepp's device is its placement on your glove. The Zepp golf sensor ($150) clips to the back of a glove, where it can track your clubhead speed, plane, path, tempo and backswing position. This data, along with a 360-degree motion capture of your swing, can sync to your iPhone, Android device or iPad via Bluetooth technology.
